MDF Enterprises at SDA Shopping Complex, opposite Iqbal Park, Srinagar stocks basketballs, hoops, acrylic backboards, volleyball posts and nets, and installs court equipment for schools. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, delivers across J&K and takes bulk and GeM orders.
Start with the court
When a school plans a new court, the first question is space. A full basketball court is 28 by 15 metres and a volleyball court is 18 by 9 metres, plus free space around each. Many schools use one multi-purpose court for both. The surface must be level and easy to clean, and outdoors it should drain quickly and stay grippy after rain and snowmelt.
Choosing hoops and backboards
The ring is 45 cm across and is mounted 3.05 m (10 ft) above the floor for senior play. Mini-basketball for young children uses a lower ring, at 2.60 m. Hoops come as floor-standing units with a weighted base or as wall-mounted systems. Floor-standing units can be moved when the space is shared with other activities.
Acrylic backboards are a popular choice for schools because they are lighter and cheaper than glass and far less likely to shatter. A full-size competition board is 1.80 m wide and 1.05 m tall, and smaller boards suit practice courts and younger players. Thicker acrylic gives a firmer rebound.
When ordering, ask for a complete set with pole, ring, net and mounting hardware, so no small part is missing on installation day.
Volleyball posts and nets
The net is set at 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women, with lower heights for younger age groups, so adjustable posts are worth it for schools with mixed classes. Steel posts with a powder-coated finish resist rust in wet weather.
Nylon and polyester nets hold up well outdoors, and UV-treated nets last longer in the summer sun. A tensioning system lets you keep the net tight without a struggle.
Buying for schools and departments
Most government schools in Jammu & Kashmir buy through the GeM portal or from a supplier who can give one invoice for everything. When you ask for a quote, list the court size, the number of hoops or posts and any special mounting needs, so the estimate is accurate and there are no extra charges later.
If you can, see a sample board and net before finalising a large order.
Installation tips
Plan the layout on paper first and leave clear run-off space behind each hoop and around the volleyball posts, so players do not run into walls or other equipment.
Floor-standing hoops need their base properly weighted so they do not wobble. Wall-mounted hoops need a strong wall and heavy anchor bolts, which is a job for an experienced installer. Mark the lines with non-slip paint, using a different colour for each sport, and repaint as they wear.
